Sanctus ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the Sanctus iOS application.
By using Sanctus, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide:
Name (optional): If you choose to enter your name during onboarding, it is stored locally on your device only.
Bible translation preference: Your selected Bible translation (NAB, RSV-CE, or Douay-Rheims) is stored locally on your device.
Prayer Journal entries: Your journal entries are stored locally on your device using Apple's CoreData framework. We do not have access to your journal content.
Information collected automatically:
Device identifier: An anonymous device ID (generated by iOS) is used to enforce free plan usage limits for AI chat (5 messages per day). This ID is not linked to your personal identity.
Usage analytics: We use Mixpanel to collect anonymous usage data such as which features you use, how often you open the app, and which Bible translations are selected. This data does not include your name, email, or prayer journal content.
Daily Mass readings: When you view daily Mass readings, a request is sent to our server (api.getsanctus.app) to fetch the content. We do not log your requests beyond standard server logs.
2. How We Use Your Information
To provide and improve the Sanctus app experience
To enforce free plan usage limits (5 AI chat messages per day)
To understand how users interact with the app and improve features
To provide daily Mass readings and AI faith guidance
3. AI Chat (Lumen)
When you use the Lumen AI chat feature, your messages are sent to our server (api.getsanctus.app), which then forwards them to Anthropic's Claude API or other AI providers (Google Gemini, OpenAI) to generate responses. Your messages are processed to provide responses and are not permanently stored on our servers.
Please do not share sensitive personal information (such as financial details, passwords, or medical information) in your AI chat conversations.
4. Third-Party Services
Sanctus uses the following third-party services:

5. Data Storage and Security
Your name and preferences are stored locally on your device and never transmitted to our servers.
Your Prayer Journal entries are stored locally on your device using Apple's CoreData framework.
All communication between the app and our servers uses HTTPS encryption.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
6. No Ads
Sanctus does not display advertisements. We do not share your data with advertising networks.
7. Children's Privacy (COPPA)
Sanctus is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.
8. Your Rights (GDPR & CCPA)
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:
Access: Request access to the personal data we hold about you.
Deletion: Request deletion of your personal data. Since most data is stored locally on your device, you can delete it by uninstalling the app.
Opt-out: You may opt out of analytics collection by contacting us.
California residents (CCPA): You have the right to know what personal information is collected and to request deletion.
If you choose to subscribe to Sanctus Premium, your payment is processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not have access to your payment card details. Subscription management is handled through your Apple ID account settings.
Subscriptions can be cancelled at any time through your iPhone's Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.
10. Notifications
If you grant permission, Sanctus may send you daily reminders for Mass readings. You can disable notifications at any time in your iPhone's Settings → Notifications → Sanctus.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
